Born and raised in Montreal, Canada, Max Sansalone loved music and playing the drums from a very young age. At 13 years of age he received his first drum set and started taking private lessons. His love for the drums led him to enroll at Vanier College in music. He then received a scholarship to study at the Berklee College of Music where he studied with percussion virtuoso Giovanni Hidalgo, Ed Uribe (Michel Camilo) and Jon Hazilla. While in Boston, Max performed countless gigs in the Boston area in all different styles of music from funk to big band to latin jazz.
When returning to Montreal, Max started performing in the R&B, funk scene. For 2 years he performed weekly with the great Alan Prater (Michael Jackson, Cameo). This is where he really learned to play music and started developing a deep inner pocket. He then co-founded his own group Bullfrog featuring Kid Koala and got signed to NYC jam band label rope a dope records that led him to tour across the world (Newport Jazz Festival, Roseland Ballroom NYC, Blue Note NYC, Central Park NYC, John Peel Sessions BBC London etc...). He also toured with Kid Koala for Ninja Tune records in the UK.
He went on to study with Master drummers in Cuba and Peru. Max is currently on a world tour with the great Rickie Lee Jones as well as being in the house band for the very popular TV talk show on CBC, the Ti-Me show. In between touring he is very active in the Montreal music scene as an in demand session player and live performer. H!e also teaches online with close to 8000 subscribers on youtube.
