Whistler was born and raised in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He began to play drums at the age of 4 in 1999. His first drum kit was all plastic and lasted only a few months before it was “beaten to death." Whistler’s parents went to Juilliard and brought that artistic mindset into the home which helped sculpt his own artistic drive. He attended various art schools from 4th-12th grade, where he would study basic arts including dance, visual/media art, music, and theater. He was also in a youth circus, “Circus Juventus,” in Saint Paul for 10 years. He had been accepted to the University of Hawaii his senior year of high school, expressing an interest in astronomy, but decided to stick around Minnesota when he and his friends started Hippo Campus. His love for production birthed Hippo Campus’ earliest recordings in his basement, which gained the band local attention. He recorded and produced “Small Talk” by MN local band The Happy Children in August 2016 and since then has been recording other local artists, as well as his own projects. Whistler has also started painting in the last couple of months and has been staying very busy touring with Hippo Campus.
