About Craig Bagby

Craig Bagby is a session musician, writer, vocalist, producer and touring artist. He learned how to play the drums as a child by sneaking into the living room to watch episodes of The Midnight Special on tv after his parents were asleep.

Craig's Career

Craig is a native Texan and has called Austin, TX home since 1995. He spent the majority of his career as an independent studio and touring drummer and vocalist. His most recent stints have been with Bruce Robison, Kelly Willis, Jon Dee Graham, Lincoln Durham and Sunny Sweeney.

His career focus shifted more to recording and production during and after the pandemic working on albums with Lincoln Durham and Jefferson Douglas as well his progressive rock solo project called Grover the Dragon, in which he also plays guitar, bass, piano and vocals.

"In 2008, I went to my local drum shop to buy a K Constantinople ride that I’d been wanting for a while. Directly underneath the K on the cymbal tree was a Dream Bliss 22" Crash/Ride. I’d already been curious about Dream cymbals after reading a few positive reviews, so I gave it a try. I went in to buy a K Constantinople and walked out with a Dream Bliss instead. It was the most musical cymbal I had ever played — I was sold.

A couple of years later, I found myself in a bind during the SXSW Music Festival. I had four shows in one day, each requiring a different kit. When I realized I was short a crash at one venue, I ran into the nearest Dream dealer and picked up a 19" Contact Crash. It’s been part of my main setup ever since. The 15" Bliss Hi-Hats quickly followed.

When I approached the company about becoming a Dream Artist, it was because I genuinely love the musicality of their instruments. At nearly every club gig I’ve played since getting that Crash/Ride back in ’08, another drummer has come up after the show to ask about my cymbals — especially the Bliss 22" Crash/Ride. If I could only have one cymbal (hi-hats included) on my kit for the rest of my career, it would be that one. It’s just that good."
