Dan's Career

Dan Steinert (they/them) is an Adelaide/Kaurna-based drummer and multi-faceted artist, best known as one-half of the electrifying punk rock duo TOWNS. Since picking up the sticks at just 9 years old, their journey began in the punk, hardcore, and heavy music scenes – an explosive foundation that has grown into a career defined by creativity, collaboration, and an ever-evolving live presence.

Early influences like Tre Cool, Travis Barker, Joey Jordison, and Jimmy “The Rev” Sullivan sparked Dan’s passion, while bands such as The Ghost Inside and Misery Signals fueled their teenage intensity. Later, the angular grit of Bloc Party, The Strokes, and Yeah Yeah Yeahs added garage rock and post-punk revival sensibilities to their style. Today, their drumming is a vibrant concoction – punk at its core, fused with jungle, drum & bass, rave, computer-heavy electronic pop, and the raw edges of garage rock.

This eclectic mix has forged a signature performance style: high-energy drumming intertwined with live electronics and backing tracks, inspired by innovators like Aric Improta, Aaron Gillespie, and Ben Barter. Beyond TOWNS, Dan has powered the live sound of George Alice and previously Heaps Good Friends, touring everywhere from dive bars to major festivals. At the heart of it all is their relentless drive to evolve, create, and inspire.

"Dream Cymbals are like no other cymbals in the world.
There are no other cymbals in the world that can withstand relentless heavy hitting, while still offering the exact same beautiful, buttery, crisp, feeling & sound that you experience the very first time your stick hits one of their many versatile cymbals.
Show after show I throw these cymbals, smash the hell out of them, yet they still offer such a unique tone & feeling that stands out from the crowd.
I first played a Dream Cymbal in 2015 and I haven't looked back ever since!
Over 10 years Dream has been at the core of my playing and have stood the test of time. They've grown alongside me, my music tastes and development of playing style - yet they still hold up as the constant that stay with me."
