Eric's Career

Eric Lourenço is a London, Ontario–based, self-taught art rock drummer and recording artist known for his bombastic yet controlled playing style. He is best known for his work with the psych-grunge/folk act Status/Non-Status and the shoegaze group Ombiigizi. He has toured extensively across North America, with additional stints in Mexico and the UK. Eric’s music has been featured in television, along with Polaris Music Prize and Juno Award nominations.

Eric began playing drums at 12 years old, quickly performing at local dive bars, festivals, fairs, basements, and parties. As a self-taught drummer, his studies came from playing with other musicians in bedrooms, basements, and beehives, along with deep listening across a wide range of styles including folk, psychedelic, avant-garde, math rock, indie, punk, and DIY. His favourite drummers as a teen were Zach Hill, Brian Chippendale, and Greg Saunier—musicians able to express themselves regardless of the gear at their disposal.

Some highlights of Eric’s career include recording with esteemed engineers and producers Nyles Spencer (The Bathouse) and Dean Nelson (Beck). He has played numerous international showcasing festivals such as SXSW, Sled Island, Pop Montréal, NXNE, and The Great Escape. He is happy to have played with and opened for a few of his musical heroes.

Ultimately grateful for every opportunity he has had over the years, gratitude.

"I’ve used many cymbals in my 20 years of playing drums, and none have captured the exact essence of what I’m looking for better than Dream. Playing in bands with wide dynamics requires versatility in sound, and I’ve been able to achieve that with my various Dream cymbal selections."
