About Gary Dacus

Gary Dacus began playing drums at age 15 and developed his foundation performing classic rock before serving 13 years with the U.S. Army’s 10th Mountain Division, where he continued honing his musicianship whenever possible. After leaving the Army in 2004, he pursued music full time and has since performed with numerous bands across the U.S., sharing stages with national acts such as Buckcherry, HED PE, and Tom Keifer.

Gary's Career

Gary Dacus began playing drums in 1988 at the age of 15. By 16, he was performing with a local cover band, playing late ’60s, ’70s, and ’80s rock. In 1993, Gary joined the United States Army and, after completing initial training, spent 13 years with the 10th Mountain Division at Fort Drum, New York.

During his military career, Gary continued playing music with several bands whenever he was not deployed overseas. Although separated from his drum kit during deployments, he spent countless hours practicing with drumsticks on anything he could find to keep his skills sharp, all while hoping for another opportunity to build a name for himself doing what he loved—playing drums.

After returning from Iraq in October 2004, Gary left the Army and committed to music as his full-time career. He has since performed with multiple bands across New York, Arkansas, Tennessee, and Texas.

Since relocating to the DFW area, Gary has shared the stage with national acts such as Buckcherry, Motograter, HED PE, Bobaflex, Pissing Razors, Skinlab, Mushroomhead, and Tom Keifer of Cinderella. His drumming style has been compared to the late, great Vinnie Paul, as well as Lars Ulrich and Justin Foley.

"I have been using Dream cymbals since 2008, and they are the best cymbals I have ever played. They sound fantastic and work well across all styles of music. The price point is excellent for any working drummer. I’ve even had sound engineers ask me what I’m using, and when I tell them “Dream cymbals,” their response is always, “Wow, okay!” They sit perfectly in the mix without overpowering the listener. I love that people appreciate the overall sound of Dream cymbals!"
