About Jamie Holmes

Jamie is a drummer based in Ottawa, Canada. He performs regularly with a variety of bands and artists, playing everything from jazz and big band to funk and R&B. He currently teaches at Carleton University.

Jamie's Career

Jamie has been an active member of the Ottawa music scene for over 20 years and is widely regarded as one of the most sought-after drummers in the region. With nearly 30 years of experience behind the kit, he has developed a deep knowledge of a wide range of musical styles—including jazz, Latin, funk, blues, rock, pop, and hip-hop.

While studying music performance at Carleton University, Jamie further refined his musicality under the guidance of some of the city’s top players—many of whom he would go on to work with professionally. A true freelance musician, Jamie is known for his versatility and ability to adapt to virtually any musical setting.

Though you might catch Jamie performing with almost everyone on the Ottawa scene, he is most commonly heard with groups such as The Prime Rib Big Band, Espionage Orchestra, Horojo Trio, Beats n Keys, Jeff Rogers, Hall and Notes, Michael C. Hanna, Mark Ferguson Quartet, and the James MacGowan Ensemble.

"Dream Cymbals are so beautifully unique and personal and each cymbal truly has its own identity. The more I play them, the more they mature and come into their full voice and sonic potential. I love how many sounds I can get out of each cymbal and exploring them to their fullest dynamic range. The 17" Bliss crash is the best sounding and most versatile crash cymbal I have ever played."
