Ken's Career

Ken Little, who also performs as Resonant Transitions, is a Westport, Ontario based sound artist specializing in a unique style of friction mallet techniques that he brings to the exploration of large gongs and cymbals. This unique vision allows for layering of complex sounds and textures that expands the concept of soundscapes that gongs and cymbals can produce. His work lives at the boundaries of meditation, mindfulness, ambient and experimental music, treating the gong not as a single sound but as a world of sound to explore. Ken takes the world of sound each gong offers and creates unique soundscapes through synthesizers, sound sculptures, and amplification to create swirling fields of sound that can be experienced both through hearing and felt through the whole body.

His unique stylings, techniques and ability to share these skills have allowed him to travel across Canada and abroad teaching workshops and performing his works. Ken has studied with some of the foremost gong musicians including Mike Tamburo, Karen Stackpole, Michael Bettine and Bear Love. Through these inspirations Ken has trail-blazed a unique integration of electronics, engineering, and skillful playing to stand alone in his craft and finding new expressions for the voices of gongs and cymbals.

This same work extends beyond the stage. As a lead facilitator at the Brooksong Retreat and Cancer Support Centre, Ken integrates sound and mindfulness for participants navigating cancer journeys, and for the people supporting them, offering sessions where the voice of the gong becomes a space for rest, presence and healing. Ken has bridged his learnings from the Deep Listening Institute with Mindfulness Informed End of Life Care ath the Univesity of Toronto to create sound meditation offerings designed for individuals navigating difficult diagnosises and life circumstances. Through retreats and community circles Ken shares these easy entry methods for mindfulness without dogma or barriers. Ken's passion to spread the possibilities of the gong is magnetic and he welcomes engagement and curiousity on how you might integrate gongs into your own music or mindfulness practices.

"Dream gongs are the highest standard of quality and the craftsmanship is evident in their presence. I adore my 52" chau and 44" wind from Dream. Each contain an entire world of sound that it would take a lifetime to truly explore. I know I can rely on Dream to find the right gong for the sound I need."
