About Kenny Tayce

Kenny Tayce is a multi-genre drummer and percussionist best known as a founding member and one of two drummers in the psych/fusion group DOOM GONG. Based in Louisville, Kentucky, Kenny teaches a large studio of students and holds a bachelor’s degree in Jazz Performance from the University of Louisville.

Kenny's Career

From a young age, Kenny seemed destined to be a drummer. Both his father and grandfather were lifelong drummers in bands and orchestras, so it was only natural for Kenny to pick up the sticks early on. At age 10, he began playing percussion in school while teaching himself to play the drum set. Before long, Kenny was performing in the marching band, musical pit orchestra, jazz band, and several local bands in his hometown of Bardstown, Kentucky.

After high school and several years of touring the United States with local groups, Kenny attended the University of Louisville, where he studied under Mike Hyman and Terry O’Mahoney and earned a degree in Jazz Performance. While in college, Kenny became a founding member of DOOM GONG, a rock, jazz fusion, and experimental band. With the group, he has recorded three albums, toured and performed at music festivals across North America and Europe, and appeared on KEXP in 2026.

"Dream Cymbals have a timbre and feel that I haven’t been able to find in any other cymbal. The first time I laid a stick on one, I knew Dream was different from other brands I’d used. Any time I was at a show and heard a cymbal with that “wow” factor, it was always a Dream. Dream helped me find my sound, and I wouldn’t be the same drummer without them."
