About Mark Boseman

Dr. Mark Boseman is a percussionist who specializes in both contemporary solo percussion as well as contemporary chamber music. Dr. Boseman is currently serving as the Associate Professor of Percussion at Texas A&M International University in Laredo, TX. Prior to his appointment at Texas A&M International, Dr. Boseman served as an associate director of percussion studies at the University of Arkansas. Dr. Boseman is the author of Mallets and Music: A Guide to Four Mallet Marimba, a method book for learning four mallet marimba techniques. Dr. Boseman holds a Bachelor's degree in music education from the University of Arkansas, a Master's degree in music performance and literature from Northwestern University, and a Doctorate of Musical Arts in music performance and literature degree from the Eastman School of Music. Dr. Boseman proudly endorses Black Swamp Percussion instruments, Dream Cymbals, and Malletech mallets and instruments.

Mark's Career

Dr. Boseman currently serves as Associate Professor of Percussion at Texas A&M International University in Laredo, TX, where he directs the TAMIU Percussion Ensemble and teaches applied percussion, percussion methods, and music appreciation. Under his leadership, the percussion program has performed showcase concerts at the Texas Music Educators Association Convention and hosted regional events like the Tierras Percussion Competition. He previously served as Associate Director of Percussion Studies at the University of Arkansas and has taught at institutions such as Laredo College, the Eastman School of Music, and Northwestern University.
A frequent guest artist and clinician, Dr. Boseman has performed and presented at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention, West Shore Day of Percussion, University of Central Arkansas Percussion Festival, and the University of Arkansas Summer Marimba Seminar, where he also serves as an organizer and featured performer. Since 2012, he has regularly traveled to Japan as a guest artist and clinician, presenting at institutions such as the Kunitachi College of Music in Tokyo and the Showa Academy of Music in Yokohama. He has also been a featured guest artist at the All Japan Percussion Association's annual festival, offering performances, masterclasses, and private instruction across a broad spectrum of instruments and styles.
As a commissioning artist and advocate for new music, Dr. Boseman has premiered numerous works for marimba and percussion by composers including Ivan Trevino, Robert Honstein, Elliot Cole, and Blake Tyson. His own publications have appeared in Percussive Notes and Rhythm! Scene, and he is the author of Mallets & Music: A Guide to Four Mallet Marimba.
Dr. Boseman earned his Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Percussion Performance and Literature from the Eastman School of Music, where he received the Performer’s Certificate. He also holds a Master’s degree from Northwestern University and a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education from the University of Arkansas. His principal teachers include Michael Burritt, Bill Cahn, Chalon Ragsdale, James Ross, Charles Ross, Paul Wertico, and Rich Thompson.
He is an artist and endorser for Malletech Mallets and Marimbas, Black Swamp Percussion, and Dream Cymbals, and is the designer of the MBO 12, his signature line of marimba mallets with Malletech.
