About Max Parr

Max Parr was born and raised in Margate, Kent, where he still calls home. Max always played heavy and loud, giving particular care to the space within music, leading him to all things ambient and post rock. Max has been playing drums for over 20 years and he studied at Canterbury Christchurch University.

Max's Career

Music was always available and accessible in Max Parr’s home growing up. Whether it was cassettes or CDs playing in the car to and from school, or Sunday lunches filled with everything from Adam Ant to Iron Maiden on the family’s Sony hi-fi system, music was ever-present. When his brother received a drum kit for his birthday, Max immediately took to it. He credits his Gran for buying him his first iPod—no more CDs skipping in the Walkman while he tried to play along to American Idiot and Jesus of Suburbia!

Max currently plays with the post-rock trio Coldbones, formed in 2013 with his childhood friends. Though the band began without fully understanding what post-rock was, he was instantly hooked. Now signed to dunk! Records, a Belgium-based label, the group draws from prog, shoegaze, and metal, blending these influences within the framework of post-rock and expanding them through evolving conceptual themes on each release.

Coldbones have received positive recognition from both Metal Hammer and Prog Magazine, with the latter nominating them for its Limelight Award. In 2018, they were invited to perform at The Heavy Music Awards at KOKO, London, and were invited back again in 2020 to perform live—continuing to proudly represent the post-rock genre.

"As the songwriting and sounds within Coldbones progressed and matured, I wanted to hone in on how the drums would make the listener feel throughout a song or an album. I needed the overall sound to support the chosen dynamics for that particular moment and the Bliss series does just that. The quick attack and dark, washy undertones allow me to equally convey loud and in your face, with soft and vulnerable. It's an honour to promote Dream without having to say a word. The cymbals fill the space in any venue and on any recording, proving me right time and time again, that these cymbals are perfect."
