About Mitchell Crawford

Mitchell Crawford is a recording engineer with the Oklahoma State University Greenwood School of Music, where he works closely with School of Music students in studio recording and music production. His role centers on teaching and mentoring students through hands-on, real-world recording practices and professional studio workflow.

Music Education

As a working drummer and active band member, Mitchell brings a performer’s perspective into the control room, particularly when recording rhythm sections. He performs multiple times each week with his band using Dream Cymbals, which are also regularly incorporated into studio sessions at OSU. This continuity between live performance and studio work allows students to directly connect performance technique with recording outcomes, including tone, clarity, and feel.

Mitchell coaches and teaches over 30 students each week, specializing in the recording of drums and percussion. His instruction emphasizes microphone selection and placement, phase relationships, signal flow, session organization, and the development of consistent, repeatable techniques for capturing dynamic performances.

Through demonstration, collaboration, and mentorship, Mitchell is committed to preparing students for professional studio environments while helping them develop both the technical skills and musical awareness required to record rhythm-driven music at a high level.
