About Robin Payne

Robin Payne’s fascination with drumming began at the age of nine and has since evolved into both a career and a lifelong passion. Having studied with renowned drummers such as Jim Chapin, Colin Woolway, Malcolm Garrett, and others, Robin has gone on to perform across Europe and the UK in various bands, projects, and musicals.

Based in the rural Midlands of England, he now focuses on studio projects, national tours, and his growing adult teaching practice.

Robin's Career

Robin Payne discovered the drums at the age of nine after watching Top of the Pops on television. Instantly hooked, he got a pair of sticks and began tapping on anything he could find. By sixteen, he had saved enough to buy his first second-hand drum kit, and his passion for drumming has remained ever since.

After playing in various bands during his youth, Robin worked on several national tours as a deputy drummer, which sparked his interest in musical theatre. He later expanded into studio work, art projects, and education, studying with renowned teachers including Jim Chapin, Colin Woolway (Drumsense), and Malcolm Garrett.

Since the age of twenty-two, Robin has performed extensively in theatre on regional, national, and international tours. His experience has given him a deep understanding of how a drummer fits into the music—and what not to play to achieve the best results.

Based in the South Midlands, Robin now focuses on teaching adults through his successful OAA Drum Studios (Only Adults Allowed), combining his love of drumming with the joy of helping others reach their goals.

"Dream Cymbals are the very essence of my sound — a product that never lets me down. Most importantly, they represent the sound in my head. From the first moment I played them, they captured my musical soul and have continued to do so since 2010."
