Ryan's Career

Ryan Barclay is a professional drummer, percussionist, session musician, and educator based in Rochester, New York. With over 25 years of experience in performance and instruction, Ryan has built a versatile career that bridges live touring, studio recording, and music education. He is known for his dynamic playing, deep musical knowledge, and commitment to mentoring the next generation of musicians.

A second-generation musician, Ryan began touring internationally at a young age with the National Honor Band of America, performing across Europe before completing his academic training. He holds both a Bachelor and Master of Science in Music Education, with a concentration in percussion, and is permanently certified to teach music in the state of New York.

Ryan’s artistic development has been shaped by intensive private study with percussion legends including Billy Martin of Medeski, Martin & Wood, world percussionist Cyro Baptista, marimba artist Dr. Andy Harnsburger, and members of leading symphonies and jazz ensembles. He is an endorsed artist with Dream Cymbals and Walberg and Auge Drums and has previously endorsed Yamaha Drums and Promark drumsticks.

With a career grounded in musical diversity, education, and craftsmanship, Ryan Barclay continues to contribute meaningfully to both the stage and the classroom.

"I am inspired by unorganized and organized sound and have a firm belief in free exploration. I strive for a sincere in-the-moment musical approach that is uniquely mine. Dream Cymbals, Mbao gongs, China crashes and Contact cymbal series provides me a soundscape that truly sets me apart as an artist."
