About Ryan Garcia

Ryan M. Garcia is a drummer rooted in Alt Rock and Reggae, drawing constant inspiration from the vibrant and ever-growing music scene of Northeast Los Angeles. He studied at the Los Angeles College of Music, earning an AA in Music Performance under the guidance of renowned educators including Ralph Humphrey, Joe Porcaro, and Aaron Serfaty.

Ryan's Career

Growing up, Ryan M. Garcia was a hard-rock and metal devotee, obsessed with double-bass drumming. After attending the Los Angeles College of Music (LACM), his musical perspective expanded as he discovered deep inspiration in jazz and funk styles. His time at LACM was defined by collaboration and growth — challenging peers, long hours in the practice room, sight-reading sessions, and constant show-going. While those intense days may sound daunting to some, Ryan loved every minute of them.

Coming from a household connected to the backyard death-metal scene through his brother, Ryan developed an appreciation not only for bands like Megadeth, but also extreme metal acts such as Nile. His biggest drumming influences include Jason Bittner, Neil Peart, Todd Sucherman, Mike Portnoy, Matt Cameron, and Jimmy “The Rev” Sullivan. One standout moment during his studies was recording at the same studio where Avenged Sevenfold’s City of Evil was tracked — a full-circle experience that left a lasting impression.

On the other end of the musical spectrum, Ryan grew up admiring Richie Gajate-Garcia, feeling a natural connection through their shared last name. Unbeknownst to him at the time, Richie would later become his Latin drumming professor at LACM. Discovering that he would not only meet one of his idols but also study under him was a defining and deeply inspiring moment in Ryan’s musical journey.

“Sound, the sound from the whole portfolio is unmatched. Jeremy ‘Bean’ said it best in his video, saying, ‘After you hit the cymbals, they have the sound of a faucet running rather than pinging.’ That’s exactly what I was looking for. Dream just so happens to also have a great set of people running it, not to mention the recycle program and Cymbal Tasting events. My ‘favorite cymbal’ is always changing, but most of the time it’s between my 10th Anniversary Ride, 22" Vintage Bliss Crash-Ride, or the Wertico Ride.”
