Mauro's Career

Mauro Gatto is an accomplished drummer and percussionist with a career spanning over three decades. After studying at the Venice Conservatory and under Eddy De Fanti, he expanded into jazz, Latin, and rock, inspired by drummers like Ian Paice and John Bonham. From 1985 to 1988, he toured Europe with the Junior Jazz Band, performing in major cities including Paris, Amsterdam, Lisbon, and Barcelona.

His deep interest in world and ethnic music led him to collaborate with groups such as Barbapedana, Manodopera, and Yesh Gvul, performing at international festivals and recording multiple albums. Mauro has also worked with artists like Moni Ovadia, Take Six, James Thompson, and Leo Miglioranza, contributing to over 200 recordings across genres including folk, progressive rock, Klezmer, and fusion.

Mauro has launched and contributed to numerous creative projects including the experimental trio Nitedrama, nu-funk group Wharthey, the Latin jazz outfit El Páramo, and the eclectic electro-world duo Anderlune. With the Venice Oriental Ensemble, he continues to explore Arabic and Mediterranean music, most recently on the album Magnificent Desolation.

In addition to live and studio work, Mauro has composed film and TV soundtracks for Kingdom Production since 2016, with dozens of scores for short films and documentaries. He is also an active educator, leading workshops and teaching drums and ethnic percussion throughout Northern Italy, with a focus on global rhythm traditions.
